The Most Alpine Route of Pindus

This pass is located in the northwestern part of the Tymfi mountain complex, near Dragonlake and above Stomio Monastery. It is a wet, rocky pass (a gorge) carved by the waters of Tsoumani's Xerolakka as they flow into the Aoos, that magnificent river traversing almost the entire northern Pindus.

It was my first visit. Spellbound by the space around me, framed in magnificent Doric proportions, and utterly overwhelmed by its history—a 22-year-old with long hair, a beard, and oversized round glasses that instantly gave away my era—I was walking up the marble Daru staircase. Right in front of me stood an ethereal female figure. Her presence struck me so deeply that I didn’t even register that she had no head or arms—she had only wings. It was the 'Winged Victory of Samothrace', who for nearly 140 years now has been residing in the Louvre, holding onto the hope of one day reuniting with her 'sisters' back home in Samothrace.
